IE I have an old P5/233/mmx notebook that is really unbearable if you crunch on it for any length of time. My current Sony notebook gets pretty warm although it has a decent fan that kicks on when the temp climbs. A good processor can easily hit 120 degrees F, which is hot enough to burn (really burn as in damaging tissue with enough time). The main problem is how is that heat conducted off the processor. Many designs conduct it right to the case, most often on the bottom since the keyboard and stuff is on the top. Air circulation under the bottom, or else something to insulate it from your leg(s) is the key. Or crank the processor speed way down to conserve power (and reduce heat at the same time).
