Hiarcs out.

Mchess and Kallisto in.

Chris

To all 15WMCC participants and interested parties

After several days of rapid email exchanges the dust has now settled.
For
those of you who don't know already I now confirm that
Heureka, Chess Wizard and Hiarcs have withdrawn from the Paris event.
Their places are being taken by:
Kallisto, M-Chess Pro 7.0 and TechoChess.
Naturally the organizers are disappointed that these last-minutes
changes are
necessary, but we are happy with the high calibre of the replacements.

After some discussion with the local arrangements group we now plan
the following schedule

> Saturday - arrival and checkout of equipment
     Opening reception (evening)

> Sunday - 1st Round (participants' meeting 14:00; play starts 15:00)
> Monday - 2nd/3rd rounds
> Tuesday - 4th/5th rounds
> Wednesday - 6th/7th rounds
> Thursday - 8th round: am
> Friday - 9th round am. (Participants' dinner in the evening)
> Saturday - 10th round and speed tournament
> Sunday - 11th round and prizegiving
>
This should leave ample time for any necessary wrap-up to decide titles,
while still making it possible for a Sunday evening departure from Paris
for those within easy travelling distance. There is a special event on
Thursday evening. We are trying to arrange the Friday evening function
at a noted Parisienne landmark.

Finally an update on the request for clarification about Rule 11 (time
control).

The discussion on the best and most appropriate way to synchronize
the computer chess clock with the shared external clock has been
vigorous.
Even so, I am confident that within a few days there will be a consensus
that will assure all participants that they can compete without frequent
or disruptive clock adjustments. Indeed many operators expect to
do little more than set their clock once at the start of the game,
and at each time control (as one would hope). The delicate issue of how
large the initial "operating cushion" should be, remains. For those who
want the option to synchronize at regular intervals, an operating
cushion
does not appear necessary. In any case I am getting some good ideas on
how to handle this matter well-before closure at the players meeting.

Bon voyage a Paris

Tony Marsland
