Subject: Fritz5 smokes Hiarcs 6 engine in 30' fixed match on PII 233

Author: Randolph S. Baker

I ran a 30' fixed length Nunn fixed match overnight on the P233 (64MB,
16MB hash tables)and Fritz5 convincingly won +12 -5 =3. I have all the
games in PGN and CBH format, complete with the times spent analyzing
each move, each engines evaluation of the position, and the search
depth. (Fritz5 sometimes includes the best calculated reply to its move,
too).

On the average, Fritz5 was outsearching the Hiarcs6 engine by 2.5 or
more plies, so I'm not surprised at the results. (In one of the draws
Fritz averaged 12.9 ply to Hiarcs 9.4 plym, a 3.5 ply edge! -- though I
suppose all it takes is a few of those drawish simple endgame positions
where the ply count goes through the roof to distort the average)

If someone would tell me a good place to post the PGN, I',ll be glad to
do so. I'll be glad to email it, too.

The 40/2 games will take a few weekends to run, as the P233 is my
machine at work.

I'll try a few other blitz matches and simply post summaries from now
on, assuming anyone finds the thread of interest.
