Nabokov actually wrote a book about a chess player. Its protagonist
is called Luzhin. Hmm, maybe not a very catchy name. Pnin?

Bitpusher? (By analogy with "woodpusher"; particularly appropriate
if you use bitboards.)
Pinion?
Kingfisher?
Entrepreneur? (Taking a sort of side-swipe at Botvinnik's name "Pioneer",
with a hint of "en prise".)
