Subject: Best for complex endings

Forgive me if this is a common question, I don't read here often.

Which program performs best in complicated endings, particularly endings with
material imbalance? I have experience with several that obviously do not
"understand" the long term consequences of certain actions. For example in a
position of R+B+P v R+3P it seems pretty obvious that if the side with the B is
trying to win, losing the pawn is a very bad idea, even if it means winning 2 or
3 of the opponents pawns.

As a follow up, do tablebases make much difference in these type of endings?

Thanks
Ian
