As an amateur programmer, tournamets where my program participate are useful
for me, both the results and the games.
The results are important for you can check if some modification works fine or
not.
The games, specially those where the program lost, help the programmer tu fix
bugs and improve weaknesses. Annotated games, pointing exactly the place where
the program made a mistake, are very useful as a test suite for checking if new
versions make the same mistake.
