The power consumption of a PC is usually below 200 watts, which is more than a TV but it is much less than a wasching machine, a fridge, an owen, a hair dryer. The point is that this instrument don't run all the time (even the refrigerators engine runs only once in a while). Keep in mind that the consumption of the PC depends a lot from what you're doing: running heavy apps uses most of the 200 watts of power for the fact the CPU, the video card, and the devices like the discs are using a lot of energy, but if you run say an engine vs engine match, leaving the screen to blank off, and accessing the HD only once in a while, well the consuption might reduce down to 50 watts, like a small lamp more or less. In the portables this is even more important, new portable pentiums can reduce the clock from 600 MHz to 500 to save a 30$ of energy. ciao Franz
