May I suggest something? Of course it's hard to stop everybody to search for the best possible PC hardware. Maybe we could find something to suggest people to use the standard furnished K6-233 computers: Let's create a "Best PC program title". The title can only be awarded to a team using the FURNISHED K6-233 computer. Very simple rule. Giving a prize for this title is unimportant. So no money is needed. This title would surely mean something to the 80.000.000 PC users in the world (maybe more?). If somebody is able to bring a (MAXINT)MHz hyper fast risc machine, no problem. He's going to win the "absolute" title. No problem. It wouldn't be fair to exclude the Alpha or PowerPC teams. But I would really like to fight against other PC programs on a fair basis. Because I like the idea that I can go in any country around the world with just a floppy disk in my pocket, and find a small PC in a small office that can run it! A democratic idea, isn't it? So knowing which is the best PC program on THIS tournament is interesting! I think the organizers of the world tournament could, without hurting anyone, just recognize that many PC users would appreciate the idea. I'm trying to get a PII-300MHz for the 15WMCC. If the "PC title" is created, I'll use the standard K6-233. And many of you competitors surely will, too, if you accept the challenge. This particular commercial program will come with a PII-300? Ok, it won't be able to get the "Best PC program title". Mmh... Maybe he is going to think twice... If you think there are too many titles in this championship, maybe we could cancel the "World Microcomputer Team Chess Champion" (it was to be awarded to the best country). If thought such a title was a good idea, but I think that fairness among the PC teams is worth even more. After what I've read in the previous posts, I guess some of you could agree with my point of view and declare here, as I did, that if a "Best PC program" title is created they'll use the standard K6-233. Come on guys! It's time to show you don't only talk, but that you are able to ACT. If enough people agree, we could ask the ICCA to create the title. Why not? They don't need money, they don't need to exclude people, and the K6 computers are available... Why not? - Christophe -
