JAFM Yeah and I once offered a draw in a won position because I did not want to lose (I did not want to be in third place, so I came in second when I would have come in first if I just knew my endgames better). Does that mean that since I did not fight to the finish, that I was not "in the spirit of the law" in that game? Where do you draw the line? You must draw it at the rules of the tournament. Bosboom did NOT break any of the rules of the tournament, so he did nothing that should be censored by people. You cannot have fuzzy ideas about what is acceptable or not. That is why they have the rules in the first place. If you criticize Bosboom, then you must criticize every player who offered or went for a draw within the first 20 moves since they were not playing to win. And, you must criticize every player who on move 10 got themselves in a bad position and then resigned since they did not want to attempt to put in the vast mental effort needed to turn a loss into a draw. The bottom line is that he did not break the rules. What he did may be distasteful to some people, but if people do not want that type of behavior at a tournament, then they should change the rules as opposed to criticizing the players who take advantage of the rules.
