ALthough I generally have a very positive impression of the new Rebel 9, there's one thing that I found strange: The available clock settings are _very_ limited. No Fischer clock, no operator time, no user adjustable time controls. Well, there _is_ a menu item for that, but it only allows to enter seconds per move (either approximate or exact), but I can't say "3 hours per game" or "40 moves in 1 hour, then 20 in 30 mins, then the rest in 30 mins". Even MChess 5, which is 2 years old, could do that! But not Rebel 9! Instead, there are really odd presets like "60 moves in 2:30 hours" which no-one needs. I tried to get an emulation of "3 hours per game" by choosing "2 hours per game" and then resetting after the first and second 30 minutes, but I have the impression Rebel plays too fast then (e.g. around 40 seconds per move at move 60 when there are still 90 minutes left on the clock - all my other programs take about 2 minutes per move under these conditions). Maybe that's the reason Ed won't go to WMCCC: the WMCCC time control is simply not settable in Rebel! :-) --- Shep
