In fact I am completely neutral ( or better ignorant about this question ) .

I have seen quite a few games now that seem to suggest comps might be up to GM
level .

But the Fritz performance in the NL2000 really isn't any proof for it IMHO .

Van Wely - Fritz , the game before it ; one free win against Bosboom ... , the
game from today which also saw the human superior .

It seems the humans are able to learn how to play a computer .

All data I have seen posted here confirms computers are probably at low 2500
level against humans ; this is really great I think but in no way "clear GM
level" .

As several pointed out in 10 years this will be a question of history probably
but it really seems the computers are not there _yet_ .

Look at the Rebel games , look at the Israeli League , look at the Fritz games ;
strong it is agreed but it seems to be strong IM or weak GM level , nothing less
, nothing more .
