Banning computers would not be good for computer chess. Why should programmers devote so much of their lives to develope things which will never be tested in ultimate way? Nothing is better than tournament play against top players who are motivated in the utmost way. I agree that it shouldn't compete against a humans endurance-too much. Memory is a slightly different question. Even human vs. human, that is a bit fishy. And it certainly doesn't resemble like a human running against a car, in any way-imho. And didn't Fisher used to think that the his ultimate aim in chess was to produce the most perfect moves? So why should anyone think that computers can ever do better than that? S.Taylor
