Even if all programs ran on 200 Mkz machines, we would not find out what is the best program. Too many good programs will not be there. Even if all good programs were there and running on uniform platforms we would not find out what is the best program, there will only be eleven rounds. This is statistically insignificant. As a purchaser of most all of the commercial programs, and user of the freeware ones, I would be very interested to see if I can see any difference in their playing abilitiy with the faster machines, to see if it would be worth upgrading for the sake of computer chess, (which is about the only reason for me to upgrade any further for years to come.) So as long as they are running on equipment that is currently for sale and costs less than $5000, I say let them get whatever they can. But I have no interest in seeing a Kryotech 767 Mhz Alpha, as it is not feasible to purchase one. Save that stuff for the WCCC. Anyone else of this opinion? kp
