Go up one level in this thread
Current 32-bit architecture machines are capable of producing all the 6-man
EGTs.
The total size of these EGTs will be 5-7 Terabytes so there is a question of how
to host them on the web and how they can be efficiently distributed as required.
Adding a man (7-man, 8-man etc) increases the number of endgame profiles by a
factor of about 2-3 (see below) ... and each endgame has about 58x the number of
positions.
# of men # of profiles
3 5
4 30
5 110
6 365
7 1001
8 2520
9 5720
10 9705
11 15490
I have heard opinions that 'technology will keep up to help us' but I disagree.
6-man EGTs are already difficult (for me at least) to download and Eugene/Rob
are having difficulties finding acreage to store them anyway.
A way forward, but this may be limited, is to 'compress' the data by (somehow)
replacing raw data in part by higher level information (e.g. 'rules') which give
the same facts in less space.
