Well, I predict that an ordinary piece of software like a chess program will never be recognised as champion of anything, except as computer chess champion. It might be very amusing to watch Kramnik against Shredder 6 sometime in the future, but I doubt very much that the winner will be awarded any title. The only thing strong chess programs will achieve is a separation of computer and human chess events again, which I will applaud. There is certainly going to be a lot of money involved, but this will only increase the exhibitional nature of the contests. Something like a modern gladiator struggle. Soon only the real strong grandmasters will be important and they'll squeeze the software distributors dry for money, without feeling an obligation to do their best, because they know that ordinary GMs aren't important enough to raise similar interest. Basically, very little is going to change. Sincerely, Mogens
