Subject: OT: Recommendations for Linux dist. and newsgroups?

Does anyone have any recommendations for which Linux distribution to get for
someone who only has experience with MS OSs?  Also, are there any usenet Linux
groups that are worth subscribing to?  I subscribed to linux.redhat.install, but
only today, and I have no idea yet if it's any good or if there's better.
