Redhat is ok. It's not too hard to install, even if you are new to Linux. On
recent experience i would say slightly easier than Windows 98.

Try http://www.linux.org/users/ and see if there is a user group near you. Often
they can be very helpful. Get on their mailing list. Depending on the group, it
might be ok to take a computer to a meeting, get Linux installed with expert
help, and get some good general advice. If the group seems good and friendly,
use whatever distribution they use, to make the most of their expertise.
