I don't know if this is true. I know that most GMs are thrilled to play much
stronger players even when they know they will most likely lose (for instance,
read Sierawan's latest article). By the same ticket I think almost all GMs have
no problems with playing computers.

Note that this is very different from computers playing in human _tournaments_.
GMs do not seem to want this at all.

I think the reason may be that GMs know that eventually computers will be so
much stronger than all but the best humans that they will dominate the
tournaments. Having your national championship won every year by some company
just because it has enough money to buy a big computer will be __very__
aggrevating. Imagine how pathetic it would be to see Deep Blue taken out of
storage and showing up at the US championship every year; never changing (hey,
its strong enough without improvement), never getting too old or tired to win,
and some faceless company pocketing a title that can never again be won by a
human.
