Go up one level in this thread

Thanks, Albert. I generally tried for it to be positive. But the dual factors of
the increased workload in answering Usenet questions (on top of the 30 to 40
e-mails I get every day) and the presence of genuine nutjobs who seem to exist
solely to "increase/accelerate entropy" (as another poster so eloquently put it)
make it a tough row to hoe. Once Bob left rgcc as a regular contributor, the
bullseye seemed to end up squarely on my back; I finally decided to follow Bob,
Matthias, Feng, Ed, and the others who ultimately determined that it was just
too much hassle to try to communicate over all the noise. I still read the group
and answer an occasional question, but it's much more fun to trade quips with
Jeroen and Pete in the other chess ngs (in an unofficial capacity) than to try
to keep a level head as a company representative when dealing with the trollers
and flamers in rgcc. If they want to control the ng, who am I to stand in their
way? I'm a firm believer in the idea that the Internet is what people make it
and that people ultimately get the Internet they deserve. I'm sure this can be
perceived as a crappy attitude on my part, but four years of their nonsense is
enough to deal with. I'm sure that this will get reposted to rgcc with the
typical hoots, catcalls, and cries of "victory!" from the usual characters --
they can knock themselves out. Hey, it'll look great on their resumès in the
"Life Accomplishments" section.
