Okay . Thank you for explaining, however one for question please. If in a krpkp situation, would a Kqrkr TB be sufficent? Would it be then considered a unknown if I don't have say KqnKr? In other words unpromotion is usually rare and mostly unnecessay.. >Crafty can handle this case correctly, but most >programs cannot. That was my mistake. I tried them all out only on Crafty. (Those I use many others) . In fact , I remember trying out a KrpKP situation and i remember thinking that it was quite unusual for Crafty to suddenly drop into analysing mode after queening the pawn..But it was no problem so i assumed the rest wouldn't have as well. >And if you are going to be using any program other than >Crafty, then you ought to have all the tablebases in a "set" to avoid such >problems... You are right. I have read many posts claiming that Crafty handles TBs better than any program even the commericals..Should have remembered this fact.. >Don't forget the promotion problem. You don't want to have your program draw >in a totally won position, because it would not promote. I see now why some obviously winning position like KQRKQ or KQNKN might be necessary but doesn't that mean that all Q endgames become important? For example , I have a KPPKB , KPPKN set..So some engines then will have problems because i don't have say KqpKn? or KqpKb?
