Okay . Thank you for explaining, however one for question please.

If in a krpkp situation, would a Kqrkr TB be sufficent? Would it be then
considered a unknown if I don't have say KqnKr? In other words unpromotion is
usually rare and mostly unnecessay..

That was my mistake. I tried them all out only on Crafty. (Those I use many
others) . In fact , I remember trying out a KrpKP situation and i remember
thinking that it was quite unusual for Crafty to suddenly drop into analysing
mode after queening the pawn..But it was no problem so i assumed the rest
wouldn't have as well.

You are right. I have read many posts claiming that Crafty handles TBs better
than any program even the commericals..Should have remembered this fact..

I see now why some obviously winning position like KQRKQ or KQNKN might be
necessary but doesn't that mean that all Q endgames become important? For
example , I have a KPPKB , KPPKN set..So some engines then will have problems
because i don't have say KqpKn? or KqpKb?
