In 1981 we had just ported "blitz" to the cray-1 platform. We were searching
about 1K nodes per second at the point where we won the Mississippi State
chess championship. I believe that was also the first time a real USCF master
had lost to a computer in a tournament-time-control game.

Crafty and CB are signficantly different. However, CB of 1995 and CB of 1981
are also significantly different animals...

I have done my best to take the good parts of CB and include them in Crafty.
Crafty has a few things CB didn't. CB has a few thing that are too expensive
to do on a PC, so Crafty doesn't have those. And CB has a few things that I
simply haven't gotten around to finishing in Crafty yet (singular extensions
is one thing).

I was present at that tournament. It was a wild affair (that game) with both
sides failing high, failing low, etc. Chess 4.x was searching about 2500 nodes
per second, Belle was searching about 5,000 nodes per second.
