To find binaries you can start at: http://www.gnu.org/software/gcc/install/binaries.html My recommendation would be to start out with DJGPP. It is a DOS compiler, true, but the executables it provides run perfectly under Windows 95 (unless you make them not to on purpose). You can find a link to it on the above page. As an addie you might look into getting an IDE, that is an interactive development environment. For DJGPP you can try RHIDE, which you should find easily via the DJGPP site or Emacs. Emacs can be really intimidating to learn, but if you take the trouble it should be worth it. It does much more than just edits text... The DJGPP people should be able to help you with any question you might have. The newsgroup to follow is comp.os.msdos.djgpp . NB: I know little about C++ and cannot tell how well the DJGPP impl. of C++ conforms to the standard. It is good enough to start learning the language certainly. When you are more clear on what you want to do with C++ you can start thinking of whether you need a commercial compiler and other programming tools. Good luck! Pekka
