Perhaps I should not mix myself into this disussion, but...

I think you are wrong on this RH. There could be several reasons for wanting a
"simple" chess program. Learning, small size, etc. etc. And I do not think
anyone would expect a really_very_simple_chessprogram to be state-of-art. Would
you?
