Arasan doesn't play most of the offbeat gambits. It is also interesting to me that, in the 2500 or so games my program has played online, I don't see human players trying these very often either. I've seen no Latvians, a couple of Elephant Gambits, one Halloween Attack (by another program, which lost), a couple of Belgrades, and 4 Blackmar-Diemer Gambits. I have to conclude that either most humans don't know these, don't think they're good, or are afraid to venture them against computers. Certainly the success rate of these openings doesn't look good in the computer games I have seen. I do see quite a bit more of more mainstream things like the King's Gambit, Slav Botvinnik Gambit, etc. --Jon
