Here's a list that I've just created on the spur of the moment, e.g. I might wake up tomorrow and think it in serious need of revision! ;) It's not so much just about "algorithms" as things that I think have made an important impact on the computer chess community over the years. 0. Minimax Search 1. Alpha-Beta Pruning 2. Iterative Deepening 3. State Caching (for transpositon detection) 4. Selective Deepening 5. Aspiration Search (window techniques) 6. Hardware Assist 7. International Computer Chess Association 8. Computer Chess Hardware, Software Manufacturers (e.g. Mephisto, ChessBase) 9. Parallel and Distributed Search 10.
