I think you are mis-smiley'ing. Common practice is that ":)" is "Smile", and
":P" is "Joke" or "Funny" or "Tongue-in-Cheek"

In any event, if what you said was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, then I
appologize.

Well - I don't think one should write in a fashion which if somebody didn't
understand your mannerisms that it would be completely misinterpreted,
especially when you can't be sure of your audience. Using any style at all is
fine with friends, but I think one should use more discretion when writing a
message which if you take away 2 smileys becomes something _EXTREMELY_ hostile.

As to having not seen my name around here - I have actually been a member for
quite some time..

The original registration e-mail I received is dated "Sat, 5 Sep 1998 09:01:30
-0400" .. at first, I only read the messages .. I believe I posted occasionally,
but I'm not sure (Well, I'm fairly sure I did reply to some posts concerning my
engine, Faile, and perhaps made a few original posts of my own). I then got
bored of the prevalent type of threads - the ones about such and such a winboard
tourney, or the result of some game with a GM, I mean, I have no interest in
those at all really.

I then stopped reading the CCC at all for a while. Then a while ago, someone
told me about an interesting post, and I went to log in, and I couldn't .. I
double checked my password vs. the initial registration, and I was indeed typing
it right .. so I re-registered with the same name and handle. The registration
e-mail that time was dated "Sat, 6 May 2000 07:35:58 -0600 (MDT)". I am
actually mildly curious as to exactly what happened..

Since re-registering, I have been fairly active - at least a few posts per week,
some of them the starting post for major discussions.. I know I'm not a
prominent poster, and probably you don't remember my name (I don't remember
yours, and I've likely read a few of your posts myself), but it is certainly not
accurate at all to say that I have not been on the CCC before.

>In future if you choose to attack me, make sure that I am actually causing

I was not attacking you at all - just simply saying that I didn't think such
attitudes or posts had any place on the CCC. Whether you think the ":)" makes
it acceptable or not is of no consequence. The fact is that post said some
pretty horrible things, unless you take it in the mindset of it being
sarcasm/tongue-in-cheek. Considering that a large number of people reading this
forum are not native English speakers, perhaps next time rather than making a
post which could be considered inflamatory, unless the reader knows your style,
for the purpose (presumably) of making a joke, you could refrain from posting
it.

Regards,
Adrien.
