Subject: Somewhat OT for Linux users

As many of you are aware, there are a few options for running windows SW nder
Linux. For quite a while, I had been using vmware, and while the gui was a bit
slow, it ran amazingly well.

I was pretty satisfied until I tried win4lin by Trelos (www.trelos.com). It is
nearly as fast as running native win95/98. Setup is easy, and disk usage is a
vast improvement over vmware. Network usage is totally transparent, but only
TCP/IP is supported. The negatives are no support for SMP, COM ports, DirectX,
or sound.

They recently made a demo aavailable on their site, and I would suggest that
anyone looking to run their win SW on Linux take a look.

So far I've tried Fritz 5 and Chess Assistant 5. Both work fine, but there was a
slight problem with the CA 5 copy protection during the install process. Based
on my experience running office SW with win4lin, I expect that most windows
chess programs will probably run fine.
