Speaking as a rank amateur -- about as far from a GM as you can get -- I see
reasons other than fear or pride why GMs might not want to play computers.
Humans are much more interesting opponents -- better planners, more imaginative.
 It is true that that the computers often win, thanks to their ability to
calculate tactics, but if you love the artistry of the game (as I presume GMs
do) I can see why you would rather play against an inspired human, who also
makes some mistakes, rather than some plodding beast that creates nothing
beautiful and simply grinds down its opponents by avoiding mistakes.
