Hi, >About the future: at the moment it still is a kind of shame to lose from >a computer. This makes a GM careful to play. However things are changing >rapidly. Soon there will be a time that GM's will consider it as a big >thing to win from a computer since there is only to win and nothing to >lose. Then we see the opposite happen: big headers in magazines, "GM wins >from computer XXX", the GM on his home page he has beaten the monster, >postings in CCC will drop with 35% because it is no news anymore to win >from a GM, instead it will be only news if a computer loses. How do you >think producers will feel then? Hmm .. an interesting point :) But there is one issue of practicality here - if it ever does get to the point where the GM is lucky to win, there likely won't be any GMs playing the computer in a sanctioned event. (What I mean is this - if the computers become better, it would be a bit of a farce to have a competition with them in it, other than perhaps an exhibition match) I actually think postings on the CCC would drop by more like 95% :P Not only would we lose the "can computer x beat GM y" and "how did computer x do in tournament y" posts, but we would also likely lose the "check out my latest winboard tourney" and "which CM personality is better" variety of posts (neither of which I am terribly interested in, FYI) too.. Regards, Adrien.
