Ferret was the very dominating participant in the Blitz tournament, and won by a margin of 1.5 points in 11 rounds. It gave away only two draws against Fritz and another program ( possibly Junior, round 6 ). Ferret is the brainchild of Bruce Moreland, who also operated it in the Blitz tournament and also in the WMCCC itself. Already 1996 in Jakarta, Ferret had become World Micro Computer Blitz Chess Champion. Congratulations to Bruce for defending this title ! The "normal" tournament does not run too well for Ferret, and, according to Chris Whittington ( if I understood him correctly in front of the high background noise level ), Bruce looked like an angry man for several days. But now he is completely happy and relaxed. I am eager to see on Frederic Friedel's video the chaos during the Blitz tournament. ( Hopefully, he has made a tape ... ) When the spatial chaos was only half of the level of the background noise it must have been a battle in the hall ( "Saalschlacht" in German ). Congratulations again to Bruce! Ingo Althoefer.
