Presumably this sponsorship provides the advertising on the site. I question whether this revenue model will work, but the big question I have is how they expect any serious player draw without a quality playing client and features like ICC (or FICS). Impossible to become the premiere chess site that way, IMO. A web interface with ad banners *during* play is just a joke. Who is going to look or click on an ad in the middle of a game?? I would rather pay not to see this.
