It's a little plug you plug into the parallel port (or sometimes the
game port).
Its presence is detected by the respective program which won't run
without it.
Generally considered to be one of the worst CP's imagineable; very
common among ultra-high priced professional software (like raytracers,
CAD proggies etc.).
