Hmm .. while I imagine adding a condition before checking the hash like this:
if (ply > 2) {

or something of the like would solve the problem of allowing a draw by 3-fold
repeition, there would still be the problem that your search may be relying upon
branches which are closer to leaf nodes which aren't being analyzed correctly..
while the main concern for the moment is to eliminate the poor habit of allowing
a draw by 3-fold repetition, it would be nice to find a proper solution rather
than a hack..
