Go up one level in this thread
>But questions like >"what's the best linux distribution", or "what's the best book to read to start >learning how to program in language X" are both readily answerable and >frequently answered elsewhere on the internet. We should stop this forum immediately. There's no need for asking questions that comes to your mind when busy chess programming or using chess programs. The answers can be found on the Internet anywhere, as all answers are multiple available there. Point your search engine to the question and you'll find the answers, or maybe go directly to rec.games.chess.computer or somewhere else out there in the wild. Too bad we should have to wrap up this forum. It was a nice and centralized place for all kind of chess programming/computer chess programs discussions, but I agree, you have to draw the line somewhere. The messages leaving behind after cleaning and wrapping it up could best stay here on a new message board (I suppose a split): section 1 - chess programs tourmanents - results and elo calculations after I checked my computer in the morning after a good night's sleep; section 2 - Deep Blue and Cray Blitz, cheating, overheating: up to the 250th on topic discussion about it ; section 3 - Is Bella Freud Chris Whittington, and if yes why should Hans Gerber be Rolf Tüschen? We don't want any litter on the groud, this splitup and categorization should secures neat and tidy messaging and on topic discussions. I volunteer to take care of the rest of the messages not to be accepted here, if necessary. If you want to discuss other non-computer chess related topics you are welcome on a new board to be set up by me. I suggest some strange off topic categories like: - program languages and chess programs - books, recsources, tips, trics; - alternatives to windows: how to use chessprograms under Linux, Unix and other OS's I don't have; to name only two off topic suggestions, of course. I'm open to suggestions. Unlimited posting to open threads. If I get cut lose, there's no one to stop me. I have a lot of ideas. Mail me with more ideas!
