I would wager that nearly all of the public doesn't know or care about anonymous
internet users, and it probably won't be any different five years from now.
What problems it causes are fairly narrow and localized.

I've often wondered what would happen if everybody followed the standard
prescription for dealing with (anonymous or named) trolls -- ignoring them.
Never will happen, though, the arguments are too seductive.
