For example recently, I tried to add the new Inmichess305 (taking as a example) into my winboard ini. For some reason, when I ran Winboard.exe , I got the "Fatal error" or "Unrecognised argument" error. No problem, I deleted that command line. Ran winboard.exe again. And now the problem was the next line for Lampchop. Deleted that, and the next problem was LG2000 ..etc etc.. It's really irriating when that happens..But I think the problem is usually something very trival, such as a extra " or // at the wrong time.. Accidently adding a extra " will mean that winboard thinks that every other command line from that point on is one program..So deleting line after line before that point is useless.. It could be other trival stuff... But I usually, have a backup in case.. Being a idiot at computers, it usually is easier to run the backup rather than search through the whole winboard.ini file to see what stupid error made by me.. >You can download a modified version of my WinBoard.ini at my website. The irriating thing is everyone installs their stuff (engines, books, tablebases) in different directories, and uses different default parameters, so it's quite a chore to set up again . >2) The commandline must be correct. Comet just need the name of the executable >(without .exe!) and a path. Other engines may differ and need commands like: >xboard, xb, -hash, config.cui and so on. Theses parameters can be found for a >specific program at > >http://www.in-trier.de/~quisinsky/schach/uebersicht.htm Because there are now around 40+ winboard engines..It's kinda tedious to search through every engine..Perhaps, it would be better if someone set up a webpage that gave a general form for most engines. And another seperate WARNING/special requirements for engines with unusual Requirements. Eg Those that require cgwin.dll, those that require the parimeter -xboard (Anmon) , those that require parimeters for TB to work etc Comet in my opinion is quite standard..Nothing special, since most engines require a configuration file whether it is Crafty.rc , Comet.ics or Yace/goliath.ini. Usually, you don't need any tweaking for the engine to run, but some engines I think set too high default hash tables.. Aaron
