Go up one level in this thread

Personally, I think that Marsland should fly coach, unless he wants to upgrade it himself. I don't know what he did, maybe he already did this. I booked a flight at the earliest possible time, and went with the cheapest ticket the travel agent could find. It still cost me like $800, but I had to go further than Marsland. These flights are always painful, but in my opinion it is not worth an extra thousand bucks to sit in a nicer seat. I don't think they should have to stay in youth hostels, but I don't think they should be staying in the honeymoon suite, either. I think they should stay in normal hotels like the rest of us, bearing in mind that most of the rest of us probably have a higher tolerance for cockroaches than they do (not that there were roaches in my hotel). I wouldn't fault them for behaving like any normal business traveller, as long as we are talking about a traveller from a company that wants to make money, rather than one that has gone out of touch with the relationship between expense and profit. I think your concern is appropriate. They shouldn't be using a huge percentage of the yearly receipts on swanky stuff. >Do we need swanky venues and tight security and canapes and champagne ? Of course not. If the sponsor wants to treat us though, I will eat the food, assuming they don't try to feed us duck skin like they did in Jakarta. It has also become traditional for the ICCA to spring for a nice meal, and I think this is fine as well. bruce
