No, I would just prefer that they are not all running on the same hardware.  If
everyone is made to run on a 1000mhz computer with the exact same amount of
memory, because that's what is provided and they're required to use, then that
bores me.  I have no money myself, so if someone provided a really great
computer for me to run a program on, sure, I'd jump at the chance to use that
instead of the slow hardware that I do use, but speaking as an uninvolved
spectator, I'd prefer that there be the extra element of the hardware to make
deciding who the winner will be a little bit more difficult.

To be honest though, I'm not very concerned with who actually does win even
though I'll be cheering for my favorite program.

This sounds ideal, I like this idea allot, but like you say, the sponsors
wouldn't be able to pay for that.
