Isn't that backwards?  1. e4 are the Open Games, typically noted for more
tactical positions where a computer should do well.  There are also wider
dissimilarities between openings against 1. e4, meaning more plans for the human
to have to memorize.  1. d4 are the Closed Games noted for their more positional
flavor.  Hence the names Open and Closed.  I think playing 1. d4 is preferable
for humans, whether facing other humans or computers for that matter, because of
the difficulties in facing just the Sicilian complex.  I think in tournament
play white scores best with 1. d4, probably due to the Sicilian vs. 1. e4 more
than anything else.  Computers would probably do best opening 1. e4, and humans
vs. computers should avoid 1. e4.
