Book.lrn can get arbitrarily large. It is the "export" version of everything your crafty has "learned" with respect to its opening book. Position.bin has a finite size, although offhand I don't recall the max size (it is small, however). It is used to remember positions where the score dropped dramatically during a game, so that if you play the same game again, it will see the problem quicker...
