I feel I have learned well some important principles of AI (artificial intelligence). And when I study AI, I have been able to relate what I have learned to what I know about chess programming, and hence learn the lessons more quickly and more deeply. It's nice to be able to read about programmers' efforts and progress. This effectively represents real world projects to implement practical AI systems. The chess computers also demonstrate that it's possible, with sufficient development, to make computers more intelligent than people in a particular domain (even when the experts in that domain persistently protested that it would never be possible). Personally, I would wish for more discussion about how the tools of AI could be applied to chess. However, when the discussions do arise, I usually find that at least some people are willing to discuss the issues thoughtfully. -g > Maybe this, or the general chess forum should be used as a group discussion >on how chess can benefit us, and how we can improve our chess?
