You should visit Steve Lopez' T-notes at http://www.chessbaseusa.com/T-NOTES/etn.htm There are a lot of contributions to optimize the use of Fritz (in general) and the GUI (in particular) for playing and training. You should also visit Bob Pawlak's site at http://hometown.aol.com/rjpawlak/ch_widow.html with lots of descriptions of programs, pointing out the weak and strong points.
