I think that the white king can always be close to the pawn and save the draw. In order to prove it you only need to build a king queen table to prove that for every square of the queen there is a good square of the king. computers cannot see the draw because they have not the target to remember the right tables but they may draw in a game because they may see the right moves without evaluation of a draw.
