In my view, I was not out of line. In my view, you were out of line. Leave a
suicide note and run away if you wish, but it will only look like you can dish
it out but you can't take it.

For hurting your feelings, I do apologize. However, I don't apologize for my
stance nor for the defense of persons you attacked. I feel very stronly that my
actions were correct. The fact is, I definitely can be a whinging, browbeating
sack of cat vomit from time to time. But always for a good cause.

We have something in common then. Why don't we both apologize, act like men,
and get on with it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and mine is no
better than yours. The idea of this forum is that there ought to be a place
where people can gather to talk about computer chess in relative serenity.
Perhaps we have both violated that precept, but I think you are not being
objective about it.

The world is full of different kinds of people. For some scientific relevance
is *irrelevant* and if people feel that way, then it is fine for them to do so.
I will feel free to disagree with them. Just because we do not see things eye
to eye in this instance does not mean that we cannot coexist peacefully.

I do have one suggestion. Get a friend of yours to read the posts that both you
and I made, from the start to the end. Then ask them to objectively tell you
whether or not you were acting a bit out of line. Perhaps what you hear may
surprise you.

Often, emotional factors can alter our thinking a bit (witness my recent
exchanges with Vincent D.). You may find that after a brief cooling off period,
you can think more objectively about it.

I don't think you owe me any apology. Quite frankly, I really don't care if
people call me names. Someone called me a racist once in CCC, and I thought it
was simply hilarious. However, I do think you ought to apologize to people whom
you called 'assholish' and 'stupid' but if you don't feel up to it, well, there
it is.

Part of being a real man is owing up to your mistakes. Running from them
accomplishes nothing at all.
