I think the question is not about whether the programs ponders_correctly or
not_ponders_correctly. its more about whats the effect with ponder=on and
ponder=off to particular program (this case srafty). If you follow the messages
in winboard forum correctly you will see some posting about yace's pondering.
Where the author clearly stated that "the pondering feature in YACE is in the
primitive stage and might have problems". But in several matches with ponder=on
with yace (done by other peoples) showed that it played just as good. Doesnt
necessary means that ponder=on doesnt effects its playing as much as it does to
other programs.
By the way I have done some similar tests with yace ponder=on vs other programs.
Unfortunately I deleted it. I guess I will do it again (just for fun).
Also all the arguements about ponder=off effects on crafty were done by "program
testers" like us. Not by anyone who actually sit with the source code, read the
codes of pondering and time allocation, and than played thousands and thousands
of games on chess servers, and then studies games for years, and then came to
conclusion.
thanks

ps, by the way how is your tourny going on? any update? Its not always possible
to check all the the webpages (in my favarites) to see for updates ;). so pls if
anything interesting comes up post them here or in winboard forum.
