I wasn't aware of my obligation to fulfill the needs of CCC but I will think about it, it's a deep one I guess... :-) >I personally enjoyed the Lithuanian Team versus Rebel, finding it >more intriguing than most human-comp matches. The deal for a decisive match against the Lithuanian people is off as negotiations failed. The goal was to attract a few world top players and having a regular 6 game match, so 6 strong humans versus 6 Rebel's. It turned out to be not feasible because somehow it was not possible to get a date all GM's were able to play. So the idea is put in the fridge. As for the normal GM challenge nothing has been planned for several reasons which must be seen as one whole: #1. I am just too busy the coming months with my normal work. #2. Actually I have enough data where Rebel stands playing GM's so the urge to play new games is more or less satisfied. Remains of course the joy of playing these games against these super chess players + the fact it gets attention which is a reason in itself to organize such events. #3. Especially on the latter I am a bit disappointed. Look at the Dortmund event which I consider as the second event after GK-DB and the attention it got. I remember the Anand-Rebel match, I counted 1700 postings here in CCC + Rebel Board other boards not included. Compare this with Dortmund and conclude the interest is slowly fading away. Not very encouraging for producers to organize new events. Of course (and I like to emphasize this) I am not talking about the CCC people here loyal as they are to computer chess in general. But the pattern is there, a lowering interest in these human-comp events. For instance the interest in the first GM challenge game against GM Rohde was 2.5 times higher than the interest in Rebel's game against former world champion Smyslov. My guess is that the "fresh" is gone and that most people by now have made up their mind concerning the state of art of comps facing GM's. For the future I keep looking for special events such the Lithuanian match or known names such as Smyslov. I think it is better to have 2 events a year and put more energy in that than playing one game each month. I also liked the opportunity of the Israel League. If comps are invited next year Rebel (and Tiger) will surely play. Ed
