Emcee. What defeat was the most painful to you? G.K. I lost only one game to Deep Blue. However it was not the defeat itself that hurt me so much, but my own light-mindedness before the match. Well, it was still possible to insist on a complete check-out of the computer, but I didn't do this. This defeat produced a really oppressive impression on me and a long time had passed before I recovered. And now I am proud that after such a loss in 1997, aged 34, I managed to start anew and in a year's time I began to win all the tournaments again. Excerpts from a speech before the students of The Humanitarian University St. Petersburg, April 10, 2000.
