>You need both speed and knowledge, unfortunately for some, but >fortunately for the field. Computer chess is interesting because it's so >damn hard. Aha - you want the girl, the money and the mother ! I don't think this will work. Take the girl and let the money and the mother die somewhere else. Mothers are only nice to children, you are adult. Money is dirty. >On the other hand, playing against someone who outsearches you on every >move is a most unpleasant experience that is not good for your health. I have not seen CSTal outsearched by a fast-searcher ! We fall about our own sacs. But I don't see that the slowest program in the content lost because it was outsearched. You can search very very deep, but when the 2nd plie of your main line is wrong, because you don't understand about chess, you can search unless you have computed infinite plies. >I thought there were some programs in Paris who played good chess >(Gandalf comes to mind), but just didn't have the horsepower to do >better. Gandalf is nice. They will tune the search some more better. Don't forget Mchess7-Paris. It run only on a K6/233 and made a good rank ! It is knowledged and slow. And played nice. How will you outsearch it, or Rebel ? No chance Amir. There is no Koenigsweg ! Take the right search depth and the right evaluation, and a little from all, and anything works. I don't think that there has ever been a koenigsweg. The koenigsweg is a myth. It exists only in theory. Nobody has ever walked on it. And no chess program, also not yours, will walk on it. It is just a question of time unless all your opponents HAVE junior at home and practise against your program. And suddenly all animals are equal ! > >Amir
