In my opinion, the restriction to a uniform hardware platform does not
make
any sense at all in case of the intended "speed vs. knowledge"
tournament.

If all other parties involved think it does and want to go for a pure
P6/200MHz tournament that's fine with me -- but I will neither support
it
nor participate in it.

Furthermore, I suggest to include 8 programs in the team of fast
searchers
because there are so many excellent ones out there. Just let the (semi-)
slow searchers play twice in each round and voila ...

My favorite choices for the teams are as follows:

(SEMI-) SLOW -- Chess System Tal, Diep, (Eugen, Gandalf), Hiarcs,
MChess

FAST -- Crafty, DarkThought, Ferret, Fritz, Hydra/Nimzo,
Junior,
                  Shredder, VirtualChess

If the majority wants to restrict the tournament to P6/200MHz or
whatever
other x86 platform just replace DarkThought by e.g. Kallisto.
