Interesting topic.

Unlike probably most of the readers here, I place a lot of value on the public
dissemination of knowledge, especially via publications.  Therefore, my choices
will seem rather out of whack compared to most, I suspect.  Anyway, in
chronological order:

David Slate and Larry Atkin (before my time, so tough to separate for me)
Robert Hyatt
Ernst Heinz

Of the commercial authors, I think Ed Schroder provides the most details, and I
commend him for that.
